Hi and welcome to my new blog.
I am a Primary 7 teacher in a medium sized primary school on the outskirts of Belfast.
During 2010, I was fortunate enough to gain recognition from Microsoft for the work I do trying to engage parents in their children’s homework. This was by winning Innovative Teacher of the Year for Northern Ireland. I followed this up by winning the European Innovative Teacher of the Year (Community) in Berlin and eventually placing as 1st Runner-Up in the same Community category at the Worldwide awards held in Cape Town in October. An amazing journey!
I felt that I should now begin to share this with a wider community and began the blog on the 1st January 2011! A new, and hopefully, fruitful adventure.
I hope you find any ideas I put up useful. Not all of them will be my own but I will try to pass on those that I think will help improve life in your classroom!
If you’re interested in how I view education, have a look at the video here. Sir Ken Robinson explaining creativity in schools, or lack thereof!
If you are interested in friendly CPD, a good follow on Wednesday evenings on Twitter is #niedchat between 8-30 and 9-30.
You’ll be made to feel verywelcome and we would love to hear the views of Northern Ireland teachers and the education community at large.
Maybe see you there…
Finally, I thought I would share some panoramic images I took while in South Africa. They are stitched together using the Microsoft Photosynth software (free) and, for me, represent the opportunities available when you take a chance…
